Music Ministry- January
To see the face of God: God told Moses he could not see the face of God and live and yet that is what Moses longed for. King David had a similar longing at the distressing time when he could not go to the Tabernacle and worship with the congregation of Israel. In Psalm 42:2 he asks the question, “When shall I come and appear before God?” We gather in public worship to meet with God. However, that is not what motivates some to attend worship. What motivates you today? Is it a chance to see your friends? Is it the opportunity to listen to some fun songs and listen to Bro. Mike speak for a while? Have you been just “going through the motions”?
Worship is an opportunity for us to appear before God. To be granted this possibility is an act of grace. It is with awe that we pause to think of what could happen in worship. We could actually come into the presence of God. He is the one who holds all the known and unknown universe in His hand, yet He invites us to come and worship Him. He invites us! Small in stature and spirituality, large in rebellion and sin and still, we can come. He even exhorts us to come before His throne with confidence: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
The opportunity of worship is in itself an act of grace from the hand of the loving and gracious God. David could not go to worship and he longed to see the face of God in the public gathering. We can go and we should go, not to be seen nor to see another, but to see the face of God. May we all enter worship this year with expectation!
