Let the Church be the Church
by Pastor Mike Winfree on July 1, 2019Dear Church,
In a few weeks I will begin a new series I’m calling “Let the Church be the Church”. It is the study through First Corinthians. The lessons and principles certainly apply to today’s generation. My prayer is that God would strengthen us individually and as a church as God’s Word confronts us with various issues. Let’s face it, there are no perfect people and no perfect church. There are only two kinds of churches, a healthy church and an unhealthy church.
Just as we go to the doctor for a check-up to see how we are doing physically, we also need to have a check-up spiritually speaking. If the doctor sees something that is not right with us, they will make recommendations to us to get us back on track to good health. The same is true spiritually. We are examined by God through the Word of God where many times we see what we must do though repentance and obedience to get us to a place of good spiritual health.
Mark Dever in his book “What is a Healthy Church?” defines a healthy church as “a congregation that increasingly reflects God’s character as his character has been revealed in His Word”.
Being healthy is much more than a performance of duties on the outside. It is a reflection of what we have become on the inside, as a result of God’s transforming grace and power.
Church, let’s come together for a check-up and a word from the Word as to what God says we should be doing.
Serving the Savior,
Pastor Mike
